Sara is a Research Mechanical Engineer at the Missoula Fire Sciences Laboratory. Sara's Ph.D. dissertation, sponsored by NASA, focused on material flammability in spacecraft. She came to the Forest Service in 2009 as part of the National Fire Decision Support Center. Sara’s research focuses on the fundamental physics of wildland fire. Her main research interest is in understanding fuel particle ignition. She has authored a textbook on combustion fundamentals and over 20 peer-reviewed publications and conference papers.
