In this video I catch several Pinfish and then cook them up three different ways, baked in the oven, fried in batter and pan seared. If you've ever wondered if you can eat these bait fish, the answer is yes and the are actually tasty.
I've been fishing in Florida for fifty years and have never considered eating a Pinfish until now. I'm sure I've caught many thousands of them in my lifetime. I actually had no intention of doing a catch and cook, but several of the Pinfish I was keeping alive to use as bait died. I figures instead of freezing them or grinding them into some sort of chum, I'd cook them up several different ways.
Honestly, I think they taste better than some fish that people really enjoy eating such as Mangrove Snapper. I don't think I'd ever keep this species to eat again just because they are so small.
