Catching big grouper and an amazing experience with manatees under a small bridge is always fun. I've caught some really good sized gag grouper while fishing tiny bridges. I've been using pinfish a lot lately because snook season is ending soon and I'm having really good luck with live bait. This season I've caught five keepers so far, three on flare hawk jigs and two on live bait fish.
I'd never fished this small bridge before. I have driven over it many times. My hope was to catch another slot sized snook on pinfish, but instead I caught three nice gag grouper.
I started out the morning fishing at a different location and catching a thirty two inch snook on a medium sized pinfish. I caught that one on the forth cast. So I ended up having about fifteen live baits to use in a different spot. I got the fish cleaned, went home and took a nap, then headed out to try fishing near a new small bridge. Well it's actually a very old bridge, but one I'd never fished around before.
To my surprise this new location is loaded with structure, loads of rocks, pilings and a really nice ledge, all of which help to attract the fish. There is also plenty of evidence that this tiny bridge gets fish a lot. Two of the gag grouper I caught had tangled up fishing line attached to them. Also, the first evening when I fished there, two different sets of anglers showed up to fish this small bridge. I'm guessing the place gets a lot of pressure.
