Ultralight Crappie While Bass Fishing (Delicious Catch and Cook)

I've been wanting to do a catch and cook with some fish caught on the ultralight rig. I landed a really nice crappie and a largemouth bass the other morning. I haven't ate speckled perch in years. When I landed that paper mouthed fish, I immediately said I was going to do a catch and cook with it.

This fishing adventure brought such surprise and excitement to me when I landed the speck. Seriously, it's been twenty five years since I've caught one of these beautiful panfish.

I"ve watch several videos over the past year of people cooking up speckled perch; the participants always rave at how wonderful crappie tastes. In order for me to give an honest review on the texture and flavor of this fish, I decided to pan sear it in butter. The recipe I used produced delicious results.

The lure I used to catch this crappie was a two inch long soft swimbait (paddle tail). On this particular morning I was casting out into the middle of the lake and bouncing the small swimbait along the bottom. Just prior to landing the speck I'd caught a really nice sized bass. When I hooked the perch I actually thought I had really small largemouth. When I saw those beautiful black and silver specks, I new I had caught a prize that was making my ultralight fishing trip a huge success.
